A rope is lowered to him
(all demolished by 2004) to support the workers of a nearby military radar base that operated in the 1950s and 1960s. Only the paved streets and driveways remain, and the mock town is built on top of them. When Boyd enters a distant tree, he finds himself at the bottom of a well. When Boyd climbs out of the well, Martin is the only one in the room, chained to the wall.
The rope was not thrown by Martin

The first season was exciting, a somewhat creative premise that showed a lot of premise. But from season three on, it starts to feel like it’s being dragged on for no particular reason.
The new elements aren’t even interesting
Season 3 was basically 8 hours of boring drama and 10 minutes of new plot elements. They’re just there to fill in a series of unanswered plot lines. To make matters worse, the dialogue seems to have been reduced to mere vowels. This is simply to fill time while the show searches for a premise.
The scary monsters no longer add tension, instead feeling like a supporting character, abandoned since the circus left town
The show suffers from the same problem as The Walking Dead, repeating and recycling the same plot lines until they become completely ineffective. Now that the main characters have become accustomed to their surroundings, they are free to roam and even regularly interact with ‘ghouls’.
